John J. Curry
is the principal of Security Technologies International, LLC. He is a decorated veteran of the New York State Police. Mr. Curry served as a New York State Trooper in a wide range of capacities for over 33 years. During his years as a New York State Trooper, Mr. Curry serviced as Commander of the New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit, Hazardous Materials Unit, and K-9 program.
In 1978, Mr. Curry attended the New York State Police Hostage Negotiations School , and served as a member of the State Police Hostage Negotiation Team until 1982. Since 1979, Mr. Curry has supervised the New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit, which responds to all bomb calls, reports of military ordinance, and reports of commercial explosives made to the New York State Police throughout the State. When the New York State Bomb Disposal Unit became part of the Hazardous Material Team in 1998, Mr. Curry became responsible for responding to chemical threats in situations where no local expertise in such threats existed, and where the chemical threat involved was too sensitive for commercial responders to control.
Among Mr. Curry's significant accomplishments is the development of a protocol for schools to utilize when responding to bomb threats, hazardous explosive chemicals, commercial explosives, and reports of military ordnance. This protocol which was adopted by the New York State Department of Education. Mr. Curry is a frequent public speaker and has provided educators with extensive training in the implementation of this protocol. Mr. Curry has served as an expert witness for litigation matters at both the Federal and New York State levels. In addition, he has been appointed to the Blaster Examining Board, in which he serves as a hearing officer for all explosive licensing cases before the New York State Department of Labor.
In 1976, Mr. Curry became the first K-9 handler for the New York State Police and coordinated the establishment of the State's K-9 training school. For more than 20 years, Mr. Curry served as the trainer and K-9 coordinator for the New York State Police K-9 program, and handled all K-9 instruction relating to the detection of explosives, narcotics, cadavers, and tracking.
Mr. Curry recently retired from his position of Chief Sergeant of the New York State Police, where he served as president of the Upstate Bomb Disposal Command Group.
